PRESS RELEASE – October 2022

Denmans Garden is pleased to be one to 20 gardens features in Barbara Segall’s beautiful new book, The Secret Gardens of the South East: A Private Tour, just published in September of this year.

Barbara is a well-known horticulturist, garden writer and blogger who knew John Brookes and spent time as she was writing the book learning about Denmans rich history.  The book is especially meaningful because it is one of few that tell the story not only of John Brookes involvement also of creator, Joyce Robinson.

A tour of some of the UK’s most beguiling gardens in the counties of Kent, Sussex and Surrey, the counties that exemplify ‘the garden of England’. There are twenty gardens explored in this visually rich guide including: Arundel Castle, Gravetye Manor, Munstead Wood and the Sussex Prairie Garden. It includes a gazetteer of other important gardens in the area with location advice, to enable readers to plan a more elaborate tour of this fertile garden area.

The book is illustrated with stunning, specially commissioned photographs by Clive Boursnell, who spent a year photographing the garden, and features a foreword by Fergus Garrett, Head Gardener at Great Dixter in Kent.
